AADC announces its theme and revamped awards

The Adelaide Advertising and Design Club (AADC) last night unveiled its highly anticipated theme and revamped format for the 35th Annual AADC Awards to be held in July.

The theme, “For the love of ideas”, was chosen to pay homage to the power of a simple idea.

“Ideas are the universal currency. Ideas move people and serve the brands we represent in the Adelaide advertising and design community,” AADC Co President Jim Robinson said.

“Without a good idea, we have nothing so this was a nice way to strip it back and get to the heart of what we do – generate great ideas and execute them exceptionally well.”

The new streamlined category system has seen the number of categories reduced from 40 to 11 and the type of work recognised widened.

The categories include Film Craft, Sound Craft, Moving Images, Radio, Print, Press, Out of home, Digital, Direct and two new categories, Activations for activities designed to create interaction or consumer engagement and the Big Idea which recognises big idea thinking – ideas that challenge what we understand to be advertising and design.

Each category has three levels of recognition, with the highest honour receiving a Chair.

Jim said the new direction for the Awards and refined category system not only better reflects where the industry is at now but also ensures Adelaide’s Awards regain their lead with industry changes worldwide.

“We have looked to similar awards throughout the world and have drawn on the best of the best to develop a system that will allow our talented Adelaide members to be recognised and counted on the international stage,” he said.

“Adelaide is a truly unique creative hub with agencies and individuals producing work of an extremely high standard, and this year’s Awards will be a great opportunity to take stock and give the work the recognition it deserves.”

Now in its 35th year, the AADC Annual Awards have been at the heart of Adelaide’s creative industry, celebrating the very best in creativity and craftsmanship.

“This year marks a significant turning point, reinventing the categories to ensure they are stronger, producing an even bigger event featuring a nationally acclaimed and loved celebrity MC and increasing the international relevance – it’s certainly an exciting time to be in the industry.”

Entries for the 35th AADC Awards open on 30 March 2012 and close on 27 April 2012 with the winning entries to be announced at an event on Friday, 27 July 2012. Work published for the first time between 1 January 2011 and 31 March 2012 will be eligible for the Awards.
