aba TRADES was founded eleven years ago by tradesman-turned-entrepreneur Paul Chaina as a one-person plumbing business. In the years since, Paul has transformed it into a thriving multi-million-dollar operation with 29 tradespeople, 29 vans on the road, and a busy schedule servicing around 300 homes and 100 businesses every month. At just 37 years old, Paul has nearly two decades of experience in the trades industry and a passion for continuing to build his business.
Paul shared, “When I first started in the trades business, I wanted to do it all straight away. But I quickly learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s about showing up every day, doing the basics well, and building trust with every customer.
Alongside the talented tradies, aba TRADES employs a corporate team based at their Stepney head office. There, a talented group of professionals, including CEO Ming Ma, Commercial Business Development Manager Chris Brooks, and Marketing Manager Adam Connell are helping to drive aba TRADES’ next chapter.
“Expanding has always been part of the vision. I started my business on my own, working as a solo plumber for a year and a bit, before building the business and growing it by one or two tradespeople per year, and I’m so proud to now be employing almost 30 tradespeople and a group of expert professionals in our head office,” said Paul.
“Our expansion allows us to deliver a high-quality one-stop solution for Adelaide homes and businesses, something that our customers have been looking for, while also continuing to support local jobs and families right here in South Australia.”

While business is booming, community remains a priority of aba TRADES. The company proudly supports KickStart for Kids, a South Australian charity providing over 60,000 breakfasts and 10,000 lunches each week to children in need. Paul says that this focus on giving back is what drives him the most. “I’ve always believed business should be about more than just work, it should be about impact. That’s why community is at the core of everything that we do, and our expansion into aba TRADES allows us to make an even greater impact.”
