Aberfoyle Park High School gets $14m revamp

Aberfoyle Park High School will get a new arts centre, front entrance and admin centre, as well as refurbishments to existing buildings.

Aberfoyle Park High School officially showcased its $14 million in capital works.

The upgrades include the refurbishment of existing buildings to provide collaborative and contemporary spaces in the middle school, and in the senior school; as well as a new arts centre, front entrance and administration centre.

It’s fantastic to see the significant investment that has been made at Aberfoyle Park High School that will give students access to world-class facilities,” says Minister for Education, Training and Skills, Blair Boyer.

“We have a range of incredible teachers and specialist programs but without the right infrastructure, it’s very difficult for these things to co-exist.”

Design specifications to enhance learning includes allowing more light, more inter-connected spaces and improved accessibility for students, staff and visitors with mobility issues.

The works were first announced in 2017 as part of the former Labor Government’s Building Better Schools initiative – a $692 million state government program to upgrade infrastructure at 91 South Australian public schools.

“The contemporary learning spaces will allow students to come together and collaborate on projects, while the performing arts centre gives them the chance to be creative and develop their dance, performance and music skills,” says Member for Davenport, Erin Thompson.

Not only is this a fantastic outcome for Aberfoyle Park High School, but we hope in the future, the wider community will also benefit from the performing arts centre and the improved facilities as well.”

The significant milestone saw students host their first performance in the new theatre, showcasing their artistic and musical talents in a special performance for the Minister for Education, Training and Skills during a tour of the school.

The 250-seat theatre will enable the school to provide quality music teaching and practice spaces for large performances, as well as a dance studio and music practice spaces.

The school’s green spaces have also been improved by creating flexible, interconnected indoor and outdoor learning areas for the school’s 1150 students.
