AC Arts lecturers showcase their curious wonders

TAFE SA Adelaide College of the Arts (AC Arts) visual arts lecturers practice what they teach, with the latest exhibition at Light Square Gallery, Curious Wonders.

Being immersed in visual culture, artists can be captivated to collect. Based on the cabinets of curiosities (Wunderkammer), the 14 visual artists have been allocated a space in the Light Square Gallery to showcase works that reflect and reference their collection of eclectic objects.

Across a variety of mediums, the following visual artists are featured: Greg Ackland, John Campbell, Yasmin Grass, Peter Johnson, Dianne Longley, Anthony Millowick, Bruce Nuske, Maureen Prichard, Vicki Reynolds, Fiona Sherwin, Andrew Stock, Gina Stutchbury, Pei Wu and Judy Summers.

TAFE SA Adelaide College of the Arts Creative Director, Christie Anthoney said: “It is indeed brave and brilliant that current lecturing staff have put their artwork on display. It is a real strength of the AC Arts that our lecturing staff are themselves practising artists with an understanding of the industry and the importance of exhibiting, along with a practical approach to doing so.”

“Current, future and past AC Arts students will enjoy the subtle way this exhibition provides insight into their lecturers. The public will enjoy it as a wonderfully curated exhibition of great talent,” said Ms Anthoney.

TAFE SA Light Square Gallery Director and exhibiting artist, Yasmin Grass, is looking forward to the exhibition of staff works which happens every few years at the gallery.

Ms Grass said: “The gallery will be filled with thought provoking imagery. Each AC Arts lecturer is referencing something they collect and exhibiting artwork produced in response to all or part of their collection.”
