For all you adrenaline junkies seeking something a little different but equally as exciting, Xtreme Karts & Leisure has just opened in the northern suburbs.
Race fans in Gawler would have been elated to hear that Xtreme Karts & Leisure has opened its doors, welcoming the public on January 1.
2023 may have snuck up on most of us but Xtreme Karts & Leisure has been a passion project for owner Greg Cowie for the last 5 years with COVID-19 and supply issues being a constant obstacle.
“This has been something that we’ve wanted to do for a long time, especially when you look and see that there’s not really anything like this up north,” Greg said.
Karting has been a part of the fabric of the Cowie family for many years now. Greg’s son, Christian, is even the 5x State Champion at the age of 16.
“Our family has a long history of not just racing karts but also motorbikes, rally karts, quad bikes etc. What’s been really nice to see is that the whole karting community in SA has supported what we’re doing right now and we couldn’t be happier,” Greg said.
The 7-acre complex sees not only your typical karting track but also has state-of-the-art French-designed and made go-karts that have been uniquely adapted to the track.
The track is surrounded by 5-metre mounds with the complex being wrapped in a 2-metre fence and tailor-made walling meaning that the venue has taken all of the necessary precautions so that you can have a fun and safe day at the track.
“We’ve made sure not to disturb the residents surrounding the track but still have a wheel-to-wheel action at no expense,” Greg said.
Xtreme Karts & Leisure has made it a point to offer its go-karts with 9 horsepower instead of regular 6 horsepower.
The venue doesn’t only offer things on-track, there is also a resident food van that offers coffee, hot donuts, pasties, pies, hotdogs and more.
At the moment Xtreme Karts & Leisure is only offering walk-in 10-minute sessions for adults and kids, however, the complex will soon be hosting corporate events, Grand Prix events and parties with a laser tag offering in the pipeline.
Xtreme Karts & Leisure hopes that every ability and level is catered to and everyone is accommodated whether it’s a party or just a day out at the track.
