Black Squid Design to be showcased in Switzerland’s Museum of Avant-Garde for its gin label designs

Black Squid Design have been included in the Museum of Avant-garde Permanent Collection in Switzerland for its work on two distinctive gin labels.

Adelaide graphic design agency, Black Squid Design, are the first Australians to be included in the Museum of Avant-garde Permanent Collection in Switzerland – a showcase of original work from around the world, showcasing the unique perspective of the avant-garde movement.

Their designs for two distinctive gin label designs, A-Lure and Needle and Pin Spirits, are featured in the Contemporary Collection, which features the best examples of new, creative languages that are made possible by a market that is artistic and commercial and includes works from various creative disciplines.

Black Squid director and founder, Derek Butler said “The work of the Avant-Garde artists from movements including Bauhaus, Cubism, DADA, Futurism, Expressionism, and Surrealism inspire me and Black Squid Design to push expectations and infuse the unexpected and the fun into our work to create meaning that overcomes all communication barriers,”

“We are in the company of some of the most incredible artists and designers. In a very humble way, this is probably the proudest moment of my design career.”

The award-winning agency has produced some of Australia’s most recognisable brands across a range of sectors and have been in the game for over 20 years.

The artworks will be displayed in the Museum’s new venue by the end of 2024 and online through the Museum of Avant-garde.
