Adelaide Airport wins Capital City Airport of the Year for its innovative and inclusive initiatives

Adelaide Airport has clinched Capital City Airport of the Year again, recognized for its cutting-edge sustainability measures and initiatives enriching the customer experience.

Adelaide Airport has been named the Capital City Airport of the Year at the Australian Airports Association National Airport Industry Awards 2024, held in Brisbane this week. This marks the second win for Adelaide Airport in this category within the last three years, thanks to its consistent excellence in airport operations.

Brenton Cox, Managing Director of Adelaide Airport, attributed the win to the hard work and dedication of the entire team. He shared, “This is a great result for everyone at Adelaide Airport. It’s always nice to receive recognition from our peers that we’re moving in the right direction to achieve our vision of being everyone’s favourite airport,” Mr Cox stated.

“What is extra special about this year’s award is that it is recognition for a body of work across our entire business rather than just for one major infrastructure project. In providing the award it was acknowledged that Adelaide Airport was at the forefront of innovation across many areas, from sustainability to customer experience – including through running world-first trials which will contribute to building the knowledge base for our industry.

“A couple of initiatives of which we’re particularly proud this year include partnering with Virgin Australia to pilot a ‘Try Before You Fly’ event in support of people with a disability and other health conditions who would otherwise perceive flying as a barrier to travel.

“We also completed the resurfacing of our main runway and taxiways with no disruption to services and while utilising 15,500 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt pavement, almost 25 per cent of the total asphalt laid. This was the first time a sustainability initiative of this kind had been trialled in Australia.

“We are particularly proud of how our team from across the organisation has been working incredibly hard to maintain service levels during baggage and security upgrades that are introducing cutting edge technology into a live operating environment.

“We have another big year ahead of us as we ramp up the next phase of infrastructure upgrades, which will include expansion of our check-in hall, adding gates and aerobridges at either end of the terminal and expanding our pick-up and drop-off facilities, as well as completing significant upgrades to our security screening and baggage handling systems.”

These measures not only enhance the functionality and efficiency of Adelaide Airport but also ensure a continued focus on sustainability and customer satisfaction. With another ambitious year ahead, Adelaide Airport is poised to continue setting standards in the airport industry, both nationally and internationally, solidifying its position as a leader in innovation and service excellence.
