This is your 2019 guide on what is happening near you and to help you fit the day into your busy schedule.

ANZAC day is held annually on April 25, with many different events being held in both metropolitan and rural areas. Remember to take some time out today to remember our fallen soldiers and say thanks to our current soldiers who continue to fight for and protect our beautiful country that we call Australia.

From ANZAC day eve events, to dawn services, the march and remembrance services on the day, as well as road closures. This is your 2019 guide on what is happening near you and to help you fit the day into your busy schedule.

Dawn Services

Dawn Service At The SA National War Memorial

The dawn service is the biggest tradition in Australia when it comes to ANZAC Day, and per tradition, the main Dawn Service will be held at the SA National War Memorial at 6:00am. This is located on the corner of Kintore Avenue and North Terrace and is open to public.

ANZAC Day March

Commencing at 9.30am from the SA National War Memorial, the march will turn right on to King William road and make its way to its destination of the Cross of Sacrifice in Pennington Gardens, North Adelaide. Spectators are invited to line both North Terrace and King William Street to watch the up to 6,000 people who will be participating in the March.

Remembrance Service At The Cross of Sacrifice

Immediately after the ANZAC Day March, there will be a special service from approximately 11:30am in Pennington Gardens, North Adelaide. This part of the day’s commemorations is the significant finale, as the Dawn Service represents a funeral, the March represents the walk to the grave and the service at the Cross of Sacrifice represents the burial.

The general public are welcome to attend this service.

ANZAC Day Road Closures

The following roads will be closed to traffic on Thursday 25 April 2019 between 5.30am and 6.15am for the Anzac Day Dawn Service and procession.

Colley Terrace, Glenelg, between Augusta Street and Jetty Road.
Jetty Road, Glenelg, between Durham Street and Colley Terrace.

4 AM to 4 PM: Victoria Drive (between Kintore Avenue and King William Road)

5 AM to 12 PM: Kintore Avenue (between North Terrace and Morgan Thomas Lane North Terrace and between Pulteney Street and Station Road)

7 AM to 12 PM: King William Street (between Hindley Street and North Terrace), Pultney Street (between North Terrace and Flinders Street), Hindmarsh Square (between Grenfell Street and Pirie Street), Rundle Street (between Pulteney Street and Frome Street), Grenfell Street (betweel Gawler Place and Frome Street)

7 AM to 1 PM: Pennington Terrace (between King William Road and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue), Sir Edwin Smith Avenue (between King William Road and Kermode Street), King William Road (between North Terrace and Kermode Street), War Memorial Drive (between Frome Road and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue), War Memorial Drive (between the Riverbank Bridge and King William Road)

6 AM to 12 AM: Waymouth Street (between Bentham Street and Young street)

ANZAC Eve Youth Vigil If you’re schedule on April 25 is absolutely packed, or if you just want to celebrate a day early, the State RSL ANZAC Eve Youth Vigil starts at 6.00pm on ANZAC Eve, at the South Australian National War Memorial on North Terrace and finishes just in time for the Dawn Service at 6:00am the next day.

More ANZAC Day Events

Union Hotel’s ANZAC Day Street Party Waymouth Street will once again close for this yearly ritual. Having long been a gathering place following the ANZAC Day Parade, The Union Hotel will host a street party with part proceeds from the day to benefit Legacy. Get stuck into a sausage from the sausage sizzle and enjoy boutique wine and beer tents and other food stalls. There will be plenty of entertainment with Cornsey’s Allstars, Salt & Pepper Swing Band, SA Pipes & Drums and Mount Barker Pipes & Drums. From 10am until late.
