Adelaide Arcade is set to bring a series of unique fashion-centric activities to ADL Fashion Week 2024, scheduled which runs from October 11th to 13th. This year marks the third year in a row that the Arcade has gotten behind the Festival, presenting everything from anti-bride bridalwear to crochet bikinis and Fran Fine-inspired designs.
Andrew Jonats, the General Manager of Adelaide Arcade, highlighted the diversity of the events reflecting the varied store types within the arcade. “We love seeing creativity come out from our retailers, who are all so unique and edgy in their own way,” he said. Jonats also encouraged shoppers to explore the various offerings during the fashion week.
Among the key highlights is the Fran Fine Fantasy Workshop, hosted by the newly opened Frida Las Vegas store on October 12th. Stavroula Adameitis, Founder of Frida Las Vegas, described the workshop as a playful nostalgia experience focusing on the wardrobe of the popular 90s TV character Fran Fine. The workshop is priced at $35. “This is a workshop to have fun with friends, where you’ll be dissecting Fran Fine’s wardrobe secrets and getting in touch with your inner child,” Adameitis explained.
Another engaging retail offer comes from Have You Met Charlie? through its Mintcloud Candy Bar pop-up in Rundle Mall. Here, shoppers can design custom earrings, a service that owner Lauren Harper said speaks directly to the joy of bespoke fashion. “Having something custom-made just for you is really special, and we love seeing the joy of that happening,” commented Harper.
Fleur Allure Couture will showcase its unique anti-bride bridal collection outside J.Farren Price. Meanwhile, crochet enthusiasts can look forward to the Crochet Your Own Bikini workshop run by experienced nonne, where participants will learn to make their own swimwear inspired by pop icon, Taylor Swift. The session is taking place on 12 October, with sessions available for $105 each.
In addition to crafting and creating, the Heart on Your Sleeve event, happening on October 13th, introduces a meaningful twist to the traditional clothes swap. Participants are encouraged to share personal stories behind their swapped items. The Imagine Circular Fashion Pop-Up offers budding designers a chance to hone their skills with circular textile technologies on both Friday and Saturday.
Vintage fashion will also have a strong presence with Finding Nina and Dulcie’s Vintage taking the forefront. Dulcie’s Vintage, known for its iconic bus, will continue its tradition of supporting local charities Centacare and Hutt St Centre which focus on addressing homelessness. They will be stationed in Rundle Mall throughout the AFW weekend. Finding Nina will also be hosting the Australian Icons: A Vintage Runway event, celebrating the rich history of Australian fashion from the 1950s through to the 1990s, and featuring legendary designers like Lisa Ho and George Gross.
