At this point, it’s no surprise that Banana Boogie is back on not only our radar, but the whole country’s.
Now Banana Boogie Bakery has just reclaimed the title of Australia’s Best Sausage Roll at the 2026 South Australian Baking Show.
The Belair favourite is no stranger to winning. After all it is Australia’s best bakery after taking out the title at the Champion Awards in Sydney earlier this year.
The bakery has racked up the accolades over the years for its sausage rolls, vanilla slice, pasties and pies.
The duo behind the bakery, Jason and Kelly Spencer, started the venture around ten years ago, and never knew they’d eventually run one of South Australia’s most awarded bakeries.
“It feels incredible to bring the title back home,” Jason said.
“After missing out last year, there was definitely a bit of extra motivation behind this one.
“Just a nice reminder for the whole team that all the hard work, early starts and long days are worth it.”
A question Jason likely gets time and time again is: what makes their sausage roll recipe the best?
“We always focus on nailing the fundamentals with quality ingredients, great pastry, good seasoning and consistency every time,” Jason answered.
“We made a few small tweaks to the recipe and method this year and I think those little refinements were what made the difference.”

On top of being named South Australia’s best bakery, the team also took out first prize for vanilla slice and beef pie, along with Most Successful Cake & Pastry Exhibitor.
“We were grateful to secure 1st place for Vanilla Slice once again and also grab 1st for our Beef Pie, which are both notoriously tough categories.”
Apprentice Lauren Govender, also won trophies for carrot cake, gourmet donuts and cupcakes.
“Our superstar apprentice Lauren also had a massive showing, winning with her Carrot Cake, Key Lime Cheesecake Gourmet Donuts and Decorated Cupcakes.”
“On top of that, being named Most Successful Cake and Pastry Exhibitor was a huge honour and a great reflection of the work that goes into everything we do across the business.”
Is there anything this bakery can’t do? We think not. And now, the award-winning bakery is preparing to open a third South Australian venue in the Adelaide CBD.
