A recent study has revealed the world’s must-visit, perfect for Instagram locations, with our very own Glenelg Beach ranking as one of the most Instagram-able landmarks that both locals and travellers need to experience in Australia.
Conducted by hotel chain Premier Inn, the research analysed Instagram hashtag data of 1,066 locations around the world, to reveal which are the most Instagram-famous spots that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.
With more than 200,000 posts for the related hashtag on Instagram, Hosier Lane in Melbourne takes the crown as Australia’s most snapped location. Famous for its vibrant and ever-changing art, the street is popular with locals and tourists looking to explore the artistic side of the city.
The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney ranks second, a popular cultural hub located in a former warehouse, featuring a café, roastery, bar, gardens and market it racked up over 120,000 hashtags on Instagram. The Grounds take on a different theme every few months, with spectacular installations giving the space a whole new identity and photographers a brand new picture.
The beautiful Noosa National Park completes the top three for Australia with 120,914 Instagram posts including hashtags from the attraction. With spectacular views, beautiful hikes and an abundance of wildlife, it’s the perfect location to lose yourself in for an afternoon. Glenelg Beach follows in fourth position, with the bustling Eumundi Markets the second Sunshine Coast location making the top five in fifth.
With a mix of urban landmarks, stunning coastline, and natural beauty spots, Australia’s top 15 list shows that photo-worthy landmarks can be anything that the heart (and camera) desires. From Melbourne’s famous pier to Geelong’s Pakington Street and the sparkling waters and shady banks of Tallebudgera Creek, there’s something for everyone’s feed.
On the global stage, Dubai is the undisputed go-to place to revamp your feed. The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest mall, reigns supreme with an astonishing 7,237,343 hashtags, making it the world’s new landmark according to Instagram users. After all, this is more than just a shopping destination: it’s a city within a city, offering everything from an aquarium to an ice rink, all under one roof, along with unobstructed views of the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa.
Dubai’s dominance continues with Dubai Marina (6,057,997 hashtags) and Dubai City Walk (2,557,044 hashtags) in second and third place respectively. The city’s futuristic landscape provides countless opportunities for capturing Instagram-worthy moments.
While Dubai may be leading the charge, Asia as a whole dominates the Instagram landscape. An impressive 73% of the world’s top 15 Instagram landmarks are located in the continent. From the dazzling night lights of Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands (4th place) to the stunning cliffsides in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay (5th place) and both the inside and out of Malaysia’s Batu Caves (8th place), Asia offers plenty of photogenic locations that wow Instagram users worldwide.
Meanwhile, Europe makes its mark with the dramatic coastal views of Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher (10th place) and Antoni Gaudí’s iconic architecture of Barcelona’s Park Güell (11th place) joining the list of the world’s new Insta-landmarks. South America’s sole entry in the top 15 is São Paulo’s Avenida Paulista, ranking in 7th place and amassing over 1.1 million hashtags for the street’s bright red bike lane.
