Adelaide BMW & Adelaide MINI Garage have officially opened the doors to their newly reimagined showroom — a next-generation space that blends European design cues, immersive brand theatre and hospitality-first service into one premium automotive experience.
Under Dealer Principal Mark Philp, the upgraded destination marks a significant step toward a more immersive and hospitality-led future for the dealership.
“The whole idea was to move away from a traditional car dealership feel and create somewhere people actually enjoy spending time,” shares Philp.
“We wanted the space to reflect how our customers live now – more relaxed, more connected, and very experience led.”
The transformation represents a major shift in the way South Australians explore, configure and collect their vehicles, with the upgraded destination celebrating the distinct identities of both BMW and MINI while allowing guests to move seamlessly between the two.
“We treated it a bit like having two very different personalities in the same home – they needed their own space, but they still had to work together,” Philp says.
“BMW is expressed through clean, architectural lines, technology, and a very refined, performance-led feel. MINI brings more colour, warmth and that fun, urban character. What ties it all together is the consistency in quality – lighting, materials, hospitality areas and the overall flow of the building.”
Inside, the showroom presents like a curated gallery. Museum-style lighting casts a spotlight on each vehicle, with modular plinths and clear sightlines creating a reveal moment as guests walk through the space. Large-format configurator screens and digital specification stands bring a digital-first retail approach, empowering customers to build, compare and customise their vehicle in real time. Displays change based on customer demand, the latest releases, and the stories BMW and MINI want to highlight, from innovation to practicality, and of course driving fun.
“The gallery style presentation then allows the cars to be appreciated more like design pieces, rather than just lined up in rows,” Philp explains.
“The upgraded LED lighting and digital tools also make a huge difference to how the cars present. Colours, trims and details are shown properly, and our digital configuration tools help customers visualise “their” car on the spot.”
A concierge lounge anchors the hospitality offering, with barista coffee, soft seating and private consultation suites designed for finance discussions, custom orders and quiet, uninterrupted service. Dedicated handover bays elevate the ownership moment, with theatrical lighting and audio-visual elements turning vehicle collection into a signature experience.
“Buying or servicing a car is a big moment, and it should feel special, not transactional. The concierge lounge and barista coffee slow everything down in a good way. Guests can sit, relax, have a drink, and talk things through without feeling like they’re in a waiting room,” Philp says.
“The idea is that it feels more like a club environment than a traditional dealership.”
The dealership has made some behind-the-scenes upgrades as well. There’s now improved EV support, with upgraded electrical infrastructure and on-site charging stations to accommodate BMW and MINI’s growing electric lineup. The service area has been revamped too, featuring clearer express lanes and a more efficient workshop layout, which means quicker service for customers. On top of that, sustainability efforts have been stepped up with energy-efficient LED lighting and smart HVAC systems to make the operation more eco-friendly.
“For most people, the biggest difference will be anything that makes their visit easier and more intuitive,” Philp says.
“The on-site EV charging is a big one. It lets customers experience electric vehicles in a very real way, seeing them plugged in, asking questions and, in some cases, charging their own car while they’re here.”
Delivered in two rolling stages over roughly eight months, the renovation was designed to minimise disruption while the new premium precinct took shape.
Opening night showcased a rare hero lineup, including a BMW-powered Benetton Formula One car, the iconic BMW Isetta micro-car, carefully curated racing and collector models, and the celebrated MINI Broadspeed — a reminder of both brands’ global motorsport DNA and fearless engineering history. The exhibit showcased historic vehicles that blend the legacy of both brands, celebrating their legacy in South Australian automotive culture, events, and enthusiast communities. We can’t forget to mention that the new Glam Adelaide all-electric MINI Countryman was also on display!
“This is our promise to our community: a place where the thrill of great engineering meets the ease of great service; every visit, for every guest,” says Philp.
“This space was very much designed with our existing owners in mind. It gives us a proper “home base” for the community, a place where we can host launch nights, owner events, rally departures and casual catchups.”
“We want our MINI and BMW owners to feel like this is their place: somewhere they’re always welcome to drop in, say hello, have a coffee and feel part of the broader Adelaide BMW and MINI family,” he adds.
