Adelaide Botanic High School expansion

Tonight the council will vote on the Memorandum of Understanding to allow the project to proceed.

The SA Government and Adelaide City Council are working together on delivering an election commitment to expand Adelaide Botanic High School, which tonight reaches a key milestone.

The council will vote on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to allow the project to proceed.

The MoU will detail the transfer of a parcel of land – commonly known as Nellie Raminyemmerin or Frome Park – to the State Government so building works can begin.

The $98 million expansion will provide flexible, contemporary learning spaces for an additional 700 students.

The current Adelaide Botanic High School capacity is 1250 secondary school students with the expansion project taking the school capacity to 1950 students.

The former boundaries of the shared CBD high school zone, which was removed by the previous Liberal Government, will be restored in 2024. Suburbs that fall within this include, Glandore, Hilton, Kurralta Park, Marlston, Mile End, Richmond, Torrensville, Black Forest and Clarence Park.

Susan Close MP, Deputy Premier and Acting Minister for Education, Training and Skills says ”The Adelaide High School expansion project is an important commitment the Malinauskas Labor Government took to the last election as it will deliver fantastic education outcomes for many students and will restore fairness by bringing the boundaries removed in 2019 back into the shared CBD zone.

“We remain committed to working constructively and collaboratively with the Adelaide City Council to deliver a great outcome for all families in this area and thank them for their commitment to this project this far.”

Member for Adelaide Lucy Hood ”I’m proud to have been educated in the public school system and, as a former education journalist, understand how important it is to provide students with the best learning environments to help them reach their full potential.

“Adelaide Botanic High is a state-of-the-art educational facility and more capacity means more families in my community can access a quality public education for their kids.”
