Adelaide Business Supports Movement Against Sexual And Gender Discrimination In Sport This Weekend

UTONIC are backing an incredible cause this weekend following International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia.

This week we celebrated International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). There have been all kinds of awesome initiatives and events happening around the country, like the launch of Sparkke’s new marriage equality “Say I Do” cans.

Now we’re venturing across the border for Stand Up Events ‘Move in May’, which is is an all inclusive fun run/walk followed by a post event celebration that welcomes anyone who believes in equality and inclusion – regardless of sexuality and/or gender. They’ve garnered huge support from sporting heroes and celebrities.

Stand Up Events was founded by Angie Greene in response to the inequality that exists in Australian sport.

Exposed to elite sporting culture from birth, Angie’s grandfather, Frank Sedgman, was a Grand Slam tennis champion, her father Russell Greene is a Hawthorn Football Club Hall of Fame member, and her brother, Steven, played for the Hawthorn Football Club for 5 years.

Angie’s second brother, Brent, was a talented athlete but as a gay man felt out of place in team sporting cultures and shunned the environment. Brent’s experience, and discrimination he experienced beyond sport, drove Angie to create Stand Up Events.

In addition to challenging sexual and gender discrimination in Australian sport, Angie hopes Stand Up will hasten change in any environment where people feel marginalised.

Angie recently came on board as a brand ambassador for the newly launched Adelaide beverage company, UTONIC.

“I am so incredibly appreciative to the team at UTONIC for their support. I only like to align our Charity with brands that genuinely believe in equality for all people and they have been so supportive. Running the Charity full time means that rest and sleep is a real struggle for me.  The UTONIC Calm has honestly been a blessing! I LOVE drinking it with half a cup of hot water to help me rest at night.”

UTONIC will be heading to Melbourne to help cheer on and hydrate event participants.

The event will be held on Sunday, the 21st of May at ‘The Tan’ – Melbourne Botanical Gardens.

Follow all the action on Stand Up Events Facebook.
