Adelaide cafe has been awarded best breakfast in Australia

Last night Adelaide cafe Pony & Cole took out Best Breakfast in Australia at a glittering awards ceremony in Sydney organised by Restaurant & Catering Australia.

In a remarkable achievement for South Australia, Adelaide’s beloved cafe, Pony & Cole, has been named “2023 Best Breakfast in Australia” at the prestigious Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence, organised by Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA). It was announced at a glittering awards ceremony in Sydney last night.

“Last month we won the 2023 Best Breakfast Restaurant in South Australia… Tonight we are pleased to announce Pony and Cole are the WINNER for the 2023 Best Breakfast in AUSTRALIA!!!!,” Pony & Cole stated in the Facebook post last night.

“These are the faces of 2 very proud and happy winners.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported Pony and Cole, we could not have done it without you.”

Located in Hindmarsh, Pony & Cole has been a favourite among locals and visitors alike, known for its extensive breakfast and lunch menus. It’s the brainchild of Nicolle (Cole) Hahn and her partner Julie Pieda, situated within a transformed 1960s industrial warehouse.

Head chef Nicolle leads the culinary charge at Pony & Cole, emphasising freshness and house-made delights such as sausage, barbecue sauce, hash browns, and cheddar jalapeño bread. With a background rooted in her parents’ regional South Australian hotels, Nicolle brings a unique blend of expertise and passion to the table.

What sets Pony & Cole apart is not only their delicious dishes but also their commitment to nurturing culinary talent.

The cafe offers apprenticeships to aspiring chefs, a rarity in Adelaide’s cafe scene, providing them with a comprehensive culinary education that covers a wide range of skills, from bread-making to sauce preparation.

Suresh Manickam, CEO of R&CA, praised South Australia as a top food destination both nationally and globally, underscoring the global recognition of South Australian cuisine. This accolade for Pony & Cole further solidifies the region’s reputation for great food.

‘They get a well-rounded education. They know how to make bread, sauces, stocks, and sausages. We change the menu around to upskill the apprentices and try to give them a wide range of experiences and build their confidence’, explains Nicolle.

Suresh Manickam, CEO of R&CA, hailed South Australia as a top food destination both nationally and globally. ‘South Australia is recognised internationally for their fine food and wine, and the winners are certainly a testament to this global reputation’, he said, highlighting the significance of the awards and the global acclaim for South Australian cuisine.

Pony & Cole’s recognition as the Best Breakfast in Australia underscores their dedication to South Australia’s food landscape and their innovative approach to breakfast. For the team at Pony & Cole, it’s not just about the food; it’s about delivering an exceptional experience.
