Discover how to make matcha the traditional way at an Adelaide cafe’s Matcha Ritual Workshop

If you love matcha, you’re really going to get excited about this Adelaide Matcha Ritual Workshop.

The deeper you dive into matcha, the more you realise there is a whole world to discover beyond the green drink that millions have posted to social media.

Loaded Corner Café, in Adelaide’s East End, is ready to show you just how much more there is to this popular beverage with its Matcha Ritual Workshop.

This workshop isn’t about a quick latte, it is about slowing down, learning the ancient ceremony, and turning your morning drink into something mindful and memorable.

This Adelaide café has built a reputation for experimenting with matcha in creative ways. Their mix and match workshop is an invitation to explore flavours while learning the art of making the best matcha.

Matcha’s story stretches back over a thousand years. In China’s Tang Dynasty, tea leaves were steamed, pressed and ground into a fine powder, a tradition that evolved during the Song Dynasty into the art of whisking tea into a delicate froth.

When Zen monks carried the practice to Japan in the late 1100s, it became a cornerstone of meditation and grew into the refined Japanese tea ceremony.

Today’s matcha latte may be a modern favourite, but its roots run deep through centuries of history.

In the world of long blacks and cappuccinos, this experience offers a return to tradition.

“We like to keep the matcha making ritual friendly and relaxed, with a little bit of structure,” says Joseph, the manager of Loaded Corner Café.

“It’s Zen, mindful and mediative because it’s matcha, but also fun and social.”

Every detail of the class is designed to impress. From the bamboo whisk to the chawan bowl, you are guided through the small but essential steps that make matcha what it is.

For the first part of the evening you learn where matcha comes from, how it is grown, and why the ritual matters just as much as the taste. With your knowledge hat on, you’ll master the basics and begin to whisk your own.

The hands-on part of the workshop is where it all comes together. For half an hour participants taste, experiment, and begin to understand what separates a true ritual from a quick café order.

Joseph explains, “Over the next half hour, participants whisk their own matcha, taste, and really feel what makes it different from just grabbing a latte at a café.”

Curiosity is what brews the creative drinks that your Instagram feed will appreciate.

The workshop gives you the chance to sample next month’s matcha specials before anyone else. It is not just about tasting though. Each participant takes home a full matcha set with premium powder included, ready to impress friends with newly learned skills.

Joseph has hosted plenty of workshops, yet the joy never wears off.

“What I like about hosting a workshop that is all matcha, is how something created a thousand years ago can still bring joy today. I really enjoy seeing the way it affects our audience.”

The Matcha Ritual Workshop is a rare chance to be part of something timeless while adding your own creative twist.

Get ready to mix and match. And matcha.
