Adelaide cafe owner presses on with anniversary celebrations despite firebombing

Just days ahead of it’s eighth anniversary, a firebombing attack has set Bray St Coffee Roasters ablaze.

Just days ahead of it’s eighth anniversary, a firebombing attack has set Bray St Coffee Roasters ablaze. The Plympton coffee shop will be inoperable for several months before being able to reopen its doors. Owner Dan Horrell told 7NEWS it was “probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to accept.”

After a call from the police in the early hours, Horrell told 7NEWS he saw “the dream I started here in 2016 in shatters.” He reflected on his hope to “bring everyone in and just celebrate the fact that I’ve been here for eight years.”

After achieving his dream of opening a cafe in 2016, the Plympton community rallied around Horrell, slowly but surely turning his business into a local favourite. After gaining much respect amongst locals and a reputation for great coffee, the business rebranded in 2022 to reflect its community. Now Bray St Coffee Roasters, the cafe became known as a hidden gem, always with a vibrant crowd and always with exceptional coffee.

Horrell was all set for an epic eight-year celebration this Saturday with a promise to give back to his community. His plan to serve free coffees and sausage sizzle all day was a way to give back to the loving, supportive community that had helped him from the start. With the most devastating news a business owner can hear, you wouldn’t blame him for taking a break.

But Horrell isn’t giving up, and he’s going to be out the front of his shop on Saturday serving up coffees as planned. Horrell has said his community has already reached out from all angles offering a helping hand to get the business up and running as soon as they possibly can.

Horrell will be out the front of 59a Bray St free serving up coffees. Rally around him this Saturday!
