Adelaide City Council amps up funding to support live music venues

The one-year project will offer small and medium city-based live music venues with a maximum capacity of 600 people a matched contribution of up to $3000.

The City of Adelaide Council is giving back to our cities’ struggling live music scene.

The city council has announced plans to amp up funding for Adelaide’s music industry by introducing The Live Music Incentive Backline Scheme.

The one-year project will offer small and medium city-based live music venues with a maximum capacity of 600 people a matched contribution of up to $3000.

This funding will enable music venues to purchase, store and maintain backline equipment such as drum kits, guitars and bass amps for musicians to use at live venues.

So far, the venues that have recieved funding under the The Live Music Incentive Backline scheme include The Golden Wattle, Lion Arts Factory, The Duke of York, The Hotel Metropolitan and Grace Emily.

The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Ms Sandy Verschoor says that the scheme would help musicians and live music venues get back on their feet in wake of COVID-19.

Our Live Music Action plan commits to dynamic ways to embrace and support music in our city,” says Ms Verschoor.

“This scheme demonstrates the Council’s commitment to enabling live music across the city and supporting our musicians and venues to prosper and thrive.”

The Council initiated the scheme as a way to help musicians who are finding it tough to buy and transport their own equipment.

“Feedback received from venues and musicians is that free access to backline equipment held by venues will facilitate and increase the number of live performances throughout the city,” says councillor Jessy Khera.

“It will especially help those musicians who are just starting out.”
