Adelaide will again play host to the Australian Masters Games in partnership with the Adelaide City Council…
Aug 27, 2015
The Australian Masters Games has announced Adelaide City Council as an official partner of the 15th Australian Masters Games in Adelaide this October.
The City of Adelaide celebrates 175 years of local government in 2015, in a significant milestone for both South Australia and the nation. Adelaide City Council was the first local government to be formed in Australia.
2015 will also mark the sixth time Adelaide has hosted the Australian Masters Games. The city has long held an affinity with the event, having first hosted the Games in 1989 in just the second year of the bi-annual sporting festival. Adelaide is often considered the “spiritual home” of the Australian Masters Games.
This year’s edition will see approximately 10,000 visitors descend on Adelaide in October, in what will be a fantastic boost to the local economy.
Adelaide City Council Lord Mayor Martin Haese said every one of those many thousand will be welcomed with open arms.
“The Masters Games is one of the premier sporting events in the country and it’s an honour to host it here in Adelaide once again,” said Martin.
“This event promotes friendship, goodwill and wellbeing, as well as building awareness of the benefits of a lifelong active lifestyle.”
“Adelaide is the home of world class festivals and events and the Masters Games is a great opportunity to showcase what Adelaide has to offer to the participants and supporters. I’d encourage all those involved to get out and about in the city and make the most of their time here.”
The City of Adelaide is not only South Australia’s capital, but its economic, educational and cultural hub. Adelaide is one of Australia’s most liveable cities, with passionate locals and a relaxed lifestyle.
Games Advisory Board chairman Chris Dittmar said the vision of the Adelaide City Council makes Adelaide the perfect location for an event such as the Australian Masters Games.
“The City of Adelaide ticks every box for the Australian Masters Games,” said Dittmar.
“It is an attractive, vibrant city with impressive infrastructure and easily accessible public transport that will ensure our thousands of participants enjoy their time at the Games.”
“Lord Mayor Martin Haese and his fellow elected members are to be commended for their cutting-edge ideas, initiatives and good governance, and we are proud to partner with the Adelaide City Council to bring the Australian Masters Games back home.”
The Australian Masters Games is a mass participation sporting event for anyone over the age of 30, attracting over 10,000 participants across approximately 60 sports, with the 15th edition being held in Adelaide from the 3rd to 10th October 2015.
