Lord Mayor Michael Harbison has welcomed today’s release of the new plans for Adelaide Oval.
“Adelaide City Council is looking forward to seeing more detail of the designs for the new Oval, and seeing how the plans have changed since Council was first briefed on 4 May this year. Naturally we’ll need time to consider the proposal to see how it might affect the City,” he said.
“The planned footbridge is very exciting, and has the potential to unlock the City’s excellent transport links and available parking.
“We have, without including commercial car parks, around 14,000 available parks about 1.5km around the Oval, so the City can certainly accommodate plenty of visitors already.
“Adelaide City Council would strongly support AFL football played in the heart of the city at Adelaide Oval.
“Council wants to play its role in making the City a vibrant sporting hub that will attract people from both South Australia and interstate.”
Council is looking forward to receiving a formal proposal from the SMA and the State government so that it can undertake consultation as required and so that it can formally consider the implications and benefits of the proposal for the City.
Adelaide City Council will require some time to give proper consideration to any proposal and both the SMA and the State Government have been advised by Council of the consultation requirements and approval processes that may be required.
