Adelaide couple wins $1 million Keno jackpot, initially thought it was a joke

An Adelaide couple from North Plympton were stunned to confirm their $1 million Keno win, initially dismissing it as a prank. The win follows another recent major jackpot in the region.

A couple from North Plympton is still coming to grips with their unexpected fortune after winning the $1 million Keno jackpot. Initially dismissing the win as a prank, the Adelaide pair confirmed their Spot 10 victory in the Keno draw 250509 305, held on Friday, 9 May 2025, netting them a hefty sum of $1,047,400.30.

The significant win comes shortly after another South Australian success, where Salisbury grandparents won the largest Keno jackpot in over two decades, securing a substantial $3.62 million.

The lucky husband, overwhelmed by the turn of events, shared his shock at the realization of their windfall. “Golly! That’s got me fairly shocked,” he remarked. “Thank you very much. I’m quite speechless. I really thought this was a joke. It’s a shock to my system, that’s for sure. We’ve never won something like this. I can’t believe it.”

Despite the life-changing amount, the pair have yet to decide on their future plans, with the husband noting, “I don’t know what we’ll do! We’ll do some good, I know that. It’s always great to help others. Once it’s sunk in, we’ll feel a bit clearer-headed and decide what to do.”

Their winning ticket was purchased at Kylie Brown’s Newsagency, located at the Bayside Village Shopping Centre in Glenelg. Delighted at her store’s role in the win, the agency’s owner, Kylie Brown, shared her excitement. “We’re super excited and happy for our customer!” she said. “We’ve been sharing the great news with everyone, and there’s lots of buzz in the store. This is our first ever major prize-winning Keno ticket we’ve sold, but we’ve had other division wins, including a $2.5 million Saturday X Lotto ticket, which we sold in February. A big congratulations to the winning customer, and we wish you all the best with your prize.”

In the previous year, South Australia witnessed more than 5.6 million Keno wins, amounting to over $130 million, which included 40 major Spot 8, 9, and 10 winners sharing in excess of $6.49 million. The Spot 10 prize itself was claimed three times, one of which was by a Paralowie woman who planned to support various charities and causes close to her heart.

Keno, a game where players win by matching their selected numbers with 20 randomly drawn ones, continues to be a popular draw among Australians.
