Adelaide’s premier celebration of independent design is back, with Bowerbird set to bring colour and style to the Showgrounds this May in what’s shaping up to be its most diverse market yet.
From 2 to 4 May, the Wayville Pavilion will come alive with colour, craftsmanship and creativity as makers from across Australia gather under one roof. This season, over 50 of them are brand new to Bowerbird, making it the perfect excuse to explore something different and pick up a few treasures just in time for Mother’s Day.
Each edition of Bowerbird is thoughtfully curated, but this year’s lineup reflects a particularly conscious approach.

Peggy Byrne, the event’s curator, has pulled together a mix of makers that strike a balance between innovation and affordability.
“I am acutely aware that disposable income is limited, and I also know how tough the environment is for small businesses, so both were top of mind when curating this lineup,” she said.
“Makers rely on Bowerbird to grow their customer base and to receive direct feedback from our audience. We believe our audience will continue to support makers as much as possible, both at the event and online afterwards,” she added.
“Support is not just transactional. Encouragement and recognition mean so much to our community.”

That community connection is what makes Bowerbird feel so special. It’s more than a market, it’s a chance to meet the minds behind the products, hear their stories, and support small creative businesses in a meaningful way.
This year’s exclusive to South-Australia appearances include Tuukjet, who turn retired billboards into stylish backpacks, and Restful Lizards, whose polymer clay sculptures are full of surrealist charm. The Spotted Quoll brings slow fashion from Tasmania with a strong focus on natural fibres, while Misu Juju’s hand-printed lino works offer a poetic tribute to everyday life.

Among the newcomers is South Australian arts collective Guurabunda Gardni — a 100 percent Aboriginal-owned venture created by a group of women blending language, culture and creative expression. Alongside them are artists like Sarah Allen, whose books and illustrations celebrate Australia’s unique wildlife, and Rondelle Designs, known for their cute and colourful ceramics and prints.
And of course, crowd favourites are making their return. Labels like Wendy Voon Knits, Captain Robbo, Botanic Enve and Goomo will be back with the pieces that have earned them devoted followings over the years.

Adding to this lineup are 16 local artists presenting 38 pieces in the Bowerbird art gallery. All paintings are 30x30cm and will be presented in a wall of art for you to enjoy. Perhaps you’ll take one home, as all are available for sale during the event.
With its strong seasonal identity and a vibe that’s both relaxed and luxurious, Bowerbird continues to stand apart. Shoppers can browse the full list of exhibitors, food and workshops online now.
