Glam Adelaide sat down with superstar Adelaide fashion designer, Liza Emanuele to get her top fashion picks in Adelaide. While we were at it, we thought we would find out what’s going on in her world, what we can expect from her new upcoming collection, and a few other important things…
As a fashion designer with a large and ever changing range, we always spot you wearing your own designs, but when you want to mix it up, where else do you love to shop in Adelaide?
I love Country Road when I want something comfy for around home. I love their tracksuits, they keep me nice and cosy on these cold wintery days.
For my shoes, I can’t go past Regina Sole Queen who is conveniently (and dangerously) close to my shop on King William Road!
A little Zara never goes astray and I have been getting some great use out of a puffer vest that I purchased from the Burnside store recently.
My most recent purchase was at Cue and I love shopping there for a few basics plus their great accessories
Aurum Jewels, also on King William Road, have some really great modern and different pieces of jewellery that I can mix in with my wardrobe. I also love Mimco for jewellery and I have a fab neck piece from their that I love because it takes me from day to night effortlessly!
For the hubby, it has to be Seven Menswear, that’s where I buy most of my husband’s clothes from. Smart, cool styling with an edge.
I also head to Cotton on Kids to shop for my daughters as they have affordable fashion that isn’t the typical ‘prissy girl’ look. I love (and so do my daughters) the quirkier pieces we can pick up from there!
What is your one must have item for the winter season?
One of my signature looks is a knit dress, and we design lots of those during winter. I love to team them with Spanx opaque tights and boots. I feel warm and comfortable, whilst still looking like I’m appropriately dressed. One of our best sellers for winter has been our Poncho….great fabrics and one size fits all!
What has it been like having Australian fashion icons George Gross and Harry Who mentor you since they retired from the industry last year?
I worked with George and Harry in the early 90s, which was literally a dream come true. They created gorgeous, sexy, confidence enhancing clothes for more than 40 years. It is wonderful to work with them weekly and gather their advice and expertise. We have so much fun and my team love the experience also.
Although you have three tiers within your signature label (fashion, classics and bridal), what is a common element running through all three?
I like to make women feel strong, sexy and chic. So many women tell me they get many compliments when wearing my clothes which I love hearing. The look is high end – yet surprisingly affordable!
With your boutique located on King William Road, you have access to some amazing eateries! Do you have a fave place to eat/drink along King William Road?
Yes my 2 favourites are Parisi’s, classic Italian food with a twist, and a great family run business with super friendly staff. Also The Pot, great atmosphere and delicious food that is totally unique.
What is new at Liza Emanuele?
It’s freezing and we still have a least a month of cold weather to go…. Our AW15 State of Grace Collection is ON SALE and there are still lots of my favourite styles that you can snap up at amazing prices!
I am also working on a Bridesmaid/Formal collection that features delicate beading.
What can we expect from your upcoming collection?
The new SS15/6 styles will be released soon, featuring mostly exclusive fabrics and prints, which is very exciting for my clients. Stunning tailoring, flattering shapes and styles that can go from day to night and are real investment pieces. Of course we will also be releasing new bridal styles in Spring…. With the massive plus that they are all made right here in South Australia!
