As the only fully functioning distillery in the city, Prohibition Liquor Co. is celebrating after winning the Trophy for Best Navy Gin alongside Five Gold Medals at the 2024 Royal Melbourne Australian Distilled Spirits Awards.
The ADSA is the first and only national awards program recognising excellence in the Australian distilling industry, and this year saw 861 entries from 219 entrants.
Prohibition Liquor Co. were awarded a major trophy in the Best Navy Gin category, as they competed with 33 other Navy Gins from distilleries across the country. Their Navy Strength Gin celebrates the naval heritage of the variety, perfectly fit for any keen sailor. The juniper-based spirit has a nose of salty ocean breeze that gives way to notes of native lime and seagrass.
A melody of depth and mouthfeel is created through maceration and vapour infusion of the juniper. This brings in a sense of sweetness and elevated texture with a lifted finish stormed by ginger, grapefruit peel and salt.
Prohibition also won five gold medals, meaning their products were awarded over 90 points. These fantastic scores were awarded to their Field Blend Shiraz Gin, Bootleg Craft Spirits Coffee Liqueur, Bootleg Craft Spirits Hazelnut & Macadamia Liqueur, 2024 Crows Player’s Recipe Gin and of course, the Navy Strength Gin.
Silver medals were also awarded to their Juniperus Gin, Original Gin and 2024 Adelaide Festival Gin.
“I attribute this continued success of each gin and liqueur to the attention to detail under the helm of Head Distiller Hugh Lumsden. From premium world-class spirits, award-winning packaging and creative storytelling, this is what continues to set Prohibition apart from the rest,” shares Co-Founder Adam Carpenter.
To celebrate the big wins, Prohibition is throwing a Distillery Party on Friday, August 9th. This will be your ultimate chance to try some of the winning spirits, as they will have free tastings of the Crows 2024 Players Recipe, Bootleg Hazelnut & Macadamia Liqueur, Bootleg Coffee Liqueur, Field Blend Shiraz Gin and the Navy Strength Gin.
There will also be $10 off all the award-winning bottles, $10 G&Ts and $18 Espresso Martinis, Navy Gimlets, & Field Blend Sours.
