Adelaide Extends Sympathy to Christchurch

Acting Lord Mayor David Plumridge has expressed his sympathy for Christchurch following today’s earthquakes.

“During this Festive season our thoughts are with the people of our sister city at this difficult time. We can’t imagine what it must be like for the individuals and families living there who are still recovering from the devastation earlier in the year,” said David.
Council has offered help wherever and whenever it is needed including qualified building inspectors and engineers to help assess damaged buildings.

In May 2011 Council made the decision to provide financial and resource assistance to the City of Christchurch, which resulted in a $26,000 donation.

Since the devastation of the February earthquake, there has been ongoing communication between the two cities particularly through all levels of government, community groups and business.

“We send our best wishes to the people of Christchurch for a safe Christmas and we will continue to offer our support as they recover from this setback in their efforts to rebuild,” said David.
