For those of you entertaining and hosting parties this festive season your day is almost here. The ever-popular Adelaide Farmers’ Market is bursting at the seams with an abundance of treasures direct from those who grew it, reared it, caught it or harvested it and you can stock up on all your favourites this New Year’s Eve.
With Adelaide’s Christmas Eve markets abuzz at the Adelaide Showgrounds last week, our advice is to pre-order your ultra-fresh produce for convenience to ensure you get all you need, saving you time, waiting in queues and overcrowding ahead of the busy holiday season.
With more than 40 stall holders all selling their wares, you’ll be spoilt for choice with summer fruits, veggies, seafood, breads, cheeses, beer, wines and specialty gins plus more – all the necessities to keep you and your loved ones healthy, happy and vibrant into the new year.
Adelaide Farmers’ Market chief executive officer Christine Robertson says as New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday, which is traditionally when the markets are held, stall holders will set up shop the morning prior, on Saturday 31 December, so no one misses out.
“We usually only have Sunday markets but because of the public holiday we’ve changed our trading hours to be more accessible to everyone and to suit our stall holders,” says Christine.
“More than half of our market holders come from regional areas such as the Fleurieu Peninsula, Murray River, Clare Valley, the Adelaide Hills, Eyre Peninsula and even Robe in the south-east, so the quality of produce on offer is exceptional.
“At the Adelaide Farmers’ Market, we use our Producer Guarantee system to ensure that our farmers’ markets fulfill its brand promise – the food at your market is produced by the people who sell it”.
If you missed out on becoming a Farmers’ Market member at the Christmas Markets, you’re in luck. If you sign up on New Year’s Eve, you’ll receive 10 per cent off everything you buy and get a jute shopping bag to carry all your goodies.
“This is a great opportunity to support local farmers, save money and stock up on all your holiday essentials and the quality is outstanding especially if you’re short on time,” says Christine.
“We’re an indoor, outdoor market, very family friendly too with lots of breakfast options for everyone all freshly prepared on site so you can bring the whole family along, have breakfast and get all you need”.
Book your orders in advance to avoid disappointment. Parking is off Rose Terrace alongside the Market Pavilion.
