Adelaide Fashion House Sewing up a Storm for Essential Workers

Adelaide-based designer and boutique owner, Mim Harvey is now producing a range of handmade masks.

Adelaide-based designer and boutique owner, Mim Harvey, is known for creating flirty ensembles and sourcing divine accessories but she is now directing her talents toward helping the nation’s essential workers with handmade masks.

Mim, director of Harvey The Label, says the COVID-19 shutdown has resulted in a 90% drop in sales, but that’s not stopping her from moving forward.

“If you don’t adapt you’ll die,’ she says.

“Making masks has been a natural progression. We’re donating masks to essential workers, whether they be customer service employees, vets, aged care workers, nurses, or anyone who has face-to-face contact in the workplace.

Mim says half of all the masks she and her team have made have been donated to medical staff.

“We have donated more than 450 masks to essential workers in two weeks, including packages to St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and aged-care staff in Kingston.

“Our masks are all hand made in 100% cotton in some crazy fabrics.”

The masks, which are non-medical grade, can be made in children’s sizes, and are also available to the general public at $15 per item. All customers are provided with mask use and care instructions.

“They are really aimed at people who wish to wear masks if they need to use public transport, travelling to and from work, and people who prefer to wear masks whilst grocery shopping.

“Every mask purchased allows us to make four masks which can be donated to essential workers. We offer world-wide postage and items can also be collected at our base in the CBD.”
