Adelaide Gears Up For PARK(ing) Day This Friday

The global initiative PARK(ing) Day is on this Friday and there will be some awesome things happening, from the artistic to the delicious. Check out more here

Adelaide architects, designers and businesses including Yelp and Australia’s leading container solutions provider, Royal Wolf, will temporarily take over the CBD’s on-street car parks this spring in the name of urban renewal.

On 18 September, as part of the global PARK(ing) Day initiative, residents will reimagine parking spaces to make the street a more enjoyable, attractive and sociable place for the day. But Adelaide will be straying from the ‘day’ and taking this fantastic initiative into the early evening. The best times to check it all out will actually be between 4pm-6pm!

Joining in on the theme of innovative and versatile design, Royal Wolf will provide one of its portable 10-foot event kiosk shipping containers to be transformed into a Visitor Information Hub for PARK(ing) Day event goers in partnership with Yelp, an international website and app which connects people to great local businesses.

State Manager of Royal Wolf Adelaide, Adrian Massey, said the Yelp Information Hub for PARK(ing) Day was a fantastic example of the container revolution sweeping the nation.

“Royal Wolf can transform containers to become pretty much anything. From pop-up cafés and restaurants, to merchandise outlets and shops, containers are proving immensely popular as a practical and cost-effective solution for a variety of events,” he said.

Yelp team members will staff the Information Hub and provide event details and free Krispy Kreme donuts with a Barista Coffee voucher to those in attendance that check in using its mobile app.

The Information Hub will be positioned in the middle of the action at Gawler Place in Rundle Mall with the event taking place from 3.00pm-7.00pm, between Hindley Street to Rundle Street.

Founded in San Francisco in 2005 by Rebar, the first PARK(ing) Day project transformed a single metered parking space into a temporary public park. The event is now in its fifth year in Adelaide and is supported by Adelaide City Council and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (SA Chapter).
