It is almost that time of year… And festive season Adelaide is set to light up as one of Adelaide’s most iconic buildings, the Adelaide Town Hall, will see its facade awash with Christmas light projections.
Starting now, until new years’ day, the lights will come out to play each evening to celebrate Christmas in the City 2015.
Twelve state-of-the-art animations, celebrating Christmas in Adelaide, will play on a continuous loop until 12 midnight on weekdays, with extended programming until 2am on weekends, providing a colourful start to Christmas in the City.
Lord Mayor Martin Haese said there’s been an extra special effort put into Christmas in the City this year and all of the precincts have come on board.
“This year I am encouraging everyone to shop local and to think about the family businesses they can support through the festive season, whether that be buying fresh produce from the Central Market or looking to small businesses for unique gifts for loved ones,” said Martin.
“While people are in the city, they can be part of the best dressed business competition by casting their vote for the business they think is best dressed for Christmas. The competition has already begun and voting is open via christmasinadelaide.com.au until 7December. Winners will be notified the following week.
“We’ve worked with businesses to compile a list of over 100 shopping offers and gift ideas that are featured in the Christmas in the City program, available through christmasinadelaide.com.au.
“People should keep an eye out for the Christmas in the City Wrap Squad who will be out and about providing complementary wrapping services on selected days in the lead up to Christmas.
“Other events and activities include the annual Carols by Candle Light in Elder Park and the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Gala concert, and there’s always lots happening in the precinct main streets,” he said.
Christmas footpath decals are already in place to once again this year give friends and families the chance to actually SEE Santa and his reindeers flying around the CBD via a specially crafted augmented reality app Santa in the City.
Augmented reality is the blending of what’s actually there with animated computer generated images to provide a unique and festive experience.
City shoppers have the chance to win back some of their Christmas spending from 7 – 14 December for one weeks. By simply photographing their shopping receipts and submitting them to the competition at mix1023.com.au they could be in the running to win daily reimbursements valued at up to $200.
Christmas banners already line the streets and street poles are covered in Christmas candy cane wrappers across the city, while strings of festoons and giant Christmas decorations in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga will come to life in the lead up to the giant Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Friday 4 December.
The Team Kids Christmas Festival will also be happening from Friday 4 December until Sunday 6, a weekend of family entertainment, music, food, activities and giveaways at Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga. All proceeds for the event will go the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
