Adelaide Goes Cricket Mad With Ultimate Game Of Backyard Cricket

And let the cricket madness ensue…

Adelaide is going a little cricket mad. With the first Day/Night Test Match beginning tomorrow, the cricket legends are here (hi Warnie), the Adelaide Oval is set and now, Government House has come to the cricket party.

Set to be open to the public from 10am on Sunday 29 November, Government House, in partnership with Scouts SA, will run the ultimate game of cricket in the best backyard in town.

“This gives the opportunity for those heading to Adelaide Oval the chance to pop into Government House – have a hit of backyard cricket, grab a bite to eat (of course there will be snags on the barbie) and join in a host of other fun activities as well before the big game,” said Dan Ryan, CEO of Scouts SA.

Not heading to the game? Well don’t stress because you can stick around and enjoy a host of fun activities including a garden tour, live music on the lawns, rock climbing, Alice in Wonderland croquet, adventure activities and a variety of food and drink offerings.

And while all of the action is happening outside, there will also be the opportunity to check out the inside of Government House. His Excellency the Governor and Mrs Le will personally welcome visitors into the State Rooms of Government House, where staff and volunteers will provide an insight into its inner workings.Tours may also expose more than a few secrets of the magnificent house including details of a murder and ghost! Oooohhhhhh.

But back to the cricket… There will be some rules, of course. The standard rules of backyard cricket will be enforced and they go a little something like this:

· First ball – no outs on the first ball
· Tippy go – touch the ball with the bat – you gotta run
· One hand one bounce fielding rules will apply
· Magic wickets – a run out may occur at either wicket end
· Under 15s may bowl underarm
· Wickets may be replaced by an esky or wheelie bin
· No LBW’s = no arguments
· Limited overs or balls faced rules may be enforced if too many people are waiting to play
· Break a window and….

Got more rules? The Scouts would love to hear more so feel free to add any others for consideration via the Scouts SA Facebook page.
