The Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition, presented by Adelaide Festival Centre’s Adelaide Guitar Festival, is set to make waves worldwide as it opens its doors today for the 2024 online audition round.
Renowned as the most prestigious guitar competition in the southern hemisphere, this event has been instrumental in launching the careers of ten exceptional young guitarists since its inception in 2010.
Attracting aspiring artists from all corners of the globe, this highly esteemed competition has seen past victors emerge from countries such as Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Australia, and Bulgaria. Notable recent winners include the 2023 champion, Deion Cho from South Korea, and the 2022 winner, Connor Whyte from South Australia.
“The Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition has built an exceptional worldwide reputation over the years, and we are thrilled to once again welcome entrants from around the world for 2024 in the search for the next rising star of classical guitar,” Adelaide Guitar Festival Artistic Director Slava Grigoryan says.
The grand prize awaiting the 2024 winner is nothing short of spectacular, featuring AUD$10,000 in prize money, an enviable Jim Redgate guitar valued at AUD$23,000, and an exclusive invitation to perform at an upcoming Adelaide Guitar Festival.

Applications for the Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition are now open, starting from Wednesday, January 31, 2024, and closing on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. The competition’s final showdown is scheduled for Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Adelaide Festival Centre, coinciding with the Adelaide Guitar Festival.
