An Adelaide salon is turning heads on the global stage after being named one of the top 100 salons in the world for design and interior aesthetics by Behind the Chair at their prestigious One Shot Global Hair Awards. One look inside its stunning new space, and it’s easy to see why.
Fön Salon, a long-time favourite among South Australians for luxe hair and makeup services, has recently revealed its new home on King William Road. With nearly a decade of excellence behind them, Fön’s new chapter is as refined as the services they’ve become known for.
“Fön began 10 years ago with a big dream—to create a luxury salon experience committed to exceptional service and aligned with the very best in our industry,” shared Alex from the Fön team.
“From the beginning, we’ve focused on innovation, competing in national competitions, leading with Adelaide’s first gender-neutral pricing model, and partnering with EOS Hotel to offer in-room hairstyling for their guests.”
With a continued focus on excellence, the new salon effortlessly reflects the brand they’ve built. The space is light and airy, with a touch of luxury.
“The design was inspired by European luxury, while still honouring the original character of the building.”
The new salon is located in a stunning historic building on King William Road, formerly home to the beloved Spats Cafe.
“We wanted to create a space that felt calming and welcoming, somewhere people could truly settle into. We collaborated with @arc.two.architects to bring this vision to life. Focusing on heritage detailing, natural materials and a layout that feels functional for our team,” shared Alex.
“The salon has become a space where clients truly feel at ease, largely because there’s room to move and work. We’re not on top of each other, and that sense of space really changes the experience. Whether clients are getting ready with friends, working from the marble bench, or unwinding with a G&T in hand, there’s a balance of luxury and comfort that reflects both our team and the King William Road community.”
The BTC One Shot Awards are one of the biggest celebrations in the industry, so Fön’s nomination is a major moment.
“Being selected as one of the Top 100 salons for the design category feels incredibly rewarding. Especially knowing how much heart and effort went into creating the space. It’s lovely recognition not just for us, but for the wider creative community in Aus.”
