Adelaide Hills app-based bus service, Keoride, extended to 2023

98% of Keoriders see the bus service as an essential part of the future public transport system in the Adelaide Hills.

The popular Keoride on-demand public transport bus service in Mount Barker, Nairne and Littlehampton, has been extended to January 2023, as it continues to provide an essential transport solution for the Adelaide Hills.

The trial bus service which launched in January 2020, has so far transported 220,000 passengers and maintained a high level 97 per cent satisfaction rating among customers – 4.8 out of five for their travel experience.

Keoride is an app-based service, where Adelaide Hills residents can book a bus when they want to travel, connecting them anywhere within the service area.

The Keoride bus trial is a collaboration between the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), multimodal transport operator Keolis Downer and technology provider VIA.

Keolis Downer CEO David Franks says it’s great to see the Adelaide Hills community continuing to embrace the service which assists residents travelling to and from their destination, quickly, safely and at a time that suits them.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with DIT to deliver world class on-demand public transport operations for the local community. The service has been hugely successful from the start, recording the fastest uptake for on-demand services in Australia,” Mr Franks says.

According to a recent customer survey, 98% of Keoriders see the bus service as an essential part of the future public transport system in the Adelaide Hills and would continue to use it if it became a permanent fixture.

Prior to the bus trial commencing, 52 per cent of customers would have used a car either as a driver or passenger, with 40 per cent taking multiple trips each week.

Passenger feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, such as – “I love it. You have changed my life. I’m no longer housebound. Thank you.” Another commented, “Keoride has become an extremely reliable source of transportation for the community, especially for students and elders and those who are unable to drive.”

Keolis Downer Future Mobility Director Segolene Deeley says it’s really exciting to see that Keoride has been a welcomed and used public transport service in the Adelaide Hills.

“It’s resulted in changed travel behaviours, with 52 per cent of our customers no longer using their cars to make trips within the local service area.”

The Keoride on-demand public transport bus service operates weekdays from 6am until 9pm and on public holidays and weekends, 9am until 7pm.

Users can book the Adelaide Hills bus via the Keoride app through Apple and Google.
