Chardonnay is back and better than ever!
Following a successful first run in 2021, the Adelaide Hills Wine Region is celebrating one of its most admired grape varieties, with Chardonnay May taking place between 20-29 May.
Regardless of whether you’re a wine connoisseur or wine amateur, Chardonnay May will have something for everyone. From vertical tastings and indulgent paired lunches, to immersive experiences and let-your-hair-down chardy parties, the 10-day festival will be a delicious celebration of the vibrant and versatile beverage.

“Last year’s inaugural Chardonnay May was enthusiastically received by consumers and our members, so we’re thrilled to be able to put it on again,” said Adelaide Hills Wine Region President, Alex Trescowthick.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase this magnificent grape variety, and the amazing things our winemakers are doing with it here in the Hills.
“For ten days this May, we’re looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors to have some fun while learning more about this fascinating, complex and flavourful grape, immersed in the beautiful Autumn colours of the Adelaide Hills.”
Dozens of family friendly events will be held across the region, appeasing the most knowledgeable food and wine lovers. Wineries will be providing seated tastings and educational sessions, while a number of Adelaide Hills restaurants will be showcasing the local produce, perfectly matched with variations of Chardonnay.

The Adelaide Hills has been producing Chardonnay since the 70s. The variety lost popularity in the 1990s after winemakers across Australia began to make overly oaky and buttery styles. Since then, Chardonnay has evolved and has made a strong comeback.
The Adelaide Hills region is known for producing ‘New Australian – New Wave’ Chardonnay, which has increasingly impressed the critics.
“Lean and mineral yet fruit-forward, Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is constantly improving as producers highlight the region’s diverse sub-regions through single-vineyard bottlings,” said Decanter magazine.
Information on individual events are yet to be announced. Keep an eye on the Chardonnay May website, as details will be released soon.
