Adelaide Hills Magazine Wins National Award

Adelaide Hills Magazine has been named Regional Publication of the Year at the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards in Sydney.

Owner and Publisher Mikyla Gilbert (pictured right) is delighted with the award. “To me it acknowledges that the effort put into a small publication like Adelaide Hills Magazine is just as worthy as that of the bigger players in the industry. It doesn’t matter if your circulation is ten thousand or ten million, you still need a great team of writers, photographers, editors, designers and salespeople to make a great magazine,” she says.

The Regional Publication of the Year award is not limited to country publications – it covers any magazines with a specific geographic focus, including cities and states – so a broad range of publications of all sizes were eligible.

“It’s a great reflection on our state that the three finalists in this category were all from South Australia,” Mrs Gilbert says.

It is the second time AHM has brought home this coveted national award, having won in 2010. It’s also the third year in a row that AHM  has won a major national prize, with journalist Nigel Hopkins receiving a Walkley Award in 2011.

“When we launched AHM in 2009, we were aiming high,” Mrs Gilbert says. “But to have won three major national awards in our first three years is something we never dreamed about. It’s a credit to everyone on the AHM team, and also to the people of the Adelaide Hills – our readers and advertisers – who support us.”

After a very brief celebration, the AHM team was straight back to work preparing for the Summer 2013 issue, due out on January 10. The Spring 12 issue is available now at all good newsagents.
