Paying tribute to the industry and a celebration of community, 21 winemakers in the Adelaide Hills Wine Region have come together to create the Hills Appeal Wine, a 2019 Syrah Meunier, with all proceeds going back into the bushfire damaged region.

At $28 per bottle, all funds raised from the 10,800 bottles will be distributed back into the local industry, to grape growers, winemakers and vineyard owners impacted by the December 2019 bushfires.

Six months on from the devastating fires, the wineries are proud to release the blend that is the culmination of juice from 21 producers.

The cool climate of the Adelaide Hills is synonymous with producing delicate, fine and floral wines and the Hills Appeal hits all those high notes and more.

“This initiative was an amazing effort with so many winemakers quickly banding together for this project that greatly help those in need,” said Adelaide Hills Wine Region, Executive Officer, Kerry Treuel.

“Production in the Hills has been lower than average these past few years so to see the generosity of these Producers, donating multiple barrels to help make this blend really just shows the spirit of our local wine industry.”

The fires burnt across 23,000 Hectares in the Adelaide Hills region, with hundreds of primary producers and businesses having been impacted with significant losses and damage to vineyards, horticulture, farms and stock.

Approximately 1,100 hectares of vineyard belonging to more than 60 growers are within, bordering or partially in the fire scar. This accounts for almost 30 per cent of the entire Adelaide Hills plantings.

Whilst the fire has directly impacted more than 60 grape growers and wine producers, the flow on effect within the region has been severe and will be felt by many for years to come.

Pending travel restrictions due to COVID-19, all cellar doors in the region are open for business with no significant damage to main visitor venues (some sheds, wineries and temporary tasting facilities were damaged).

To support and enjoy the taste of the Hills Region bottles are available to purchase from today here: https://www.adelaidehillswine.com.au/hills-appeal/

The wine is available via the AHWR Website and Central Market Shop or local Adelaide Hills Cellar Doors and bottle shops.

RRP: $28 per bottle or $150 for a six pack.

A cracking wine at a great price – all for a very good cause!
