Proof of the Adelaide Hills’ ability to produce top quality wines was dished out in spades last week when Adelaide Hills’ wines won five trophies at the 2022 Sydney Royal Wine Show.
Not only did an Adelaide Hills wine win Best Wine of Show, it also claimed Best White Wine, Best Chardonnay, Best Pinot Gris and Best Rosé.
The star of the show was Penfolds Reserve Bin A ‘Adelaide Hills’ Chardonnay 2021, which was awarded the Tucker Seabrook Perpetual Trophy for Best Wine of Show, the Albert Chan Memorial Trophy for Best White and the A P Johns Coopers Trophy for Best Chardonnay.
Howard Vineyard’s 2022 Pinot Gris was awarded the RAS of NSW Trophy for Best Pinot Gris while Artwine Temptress Rosé 2022 took the Lesley Kenney Memorial Trophy for Best Rosé.
“The Sydney Royal Show is one of the most influential wine shows in Australia so having five trophies won by Adelaide Hills’ wines is impressive,” says Adelaide Hills Wine Region President, Alex Trescowthick.
“At the heart of this result is the high quality of the grapes grown here in the Adelaide Hills. We are blessed with a cool climate which is ideal for growing vibrant well-structured Chardonnay as well as crisp whites such as Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc, and perfumed elegant reds.”
In addition, seven other Adelaide Hills wines were awarded Gold Medals across a variety of the wine show classes:
- Chain of Ponds Black Thursday Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (Class 4)
- Longview Macclesfield Chardonnay 2021 (Class 12)
- Sidewood Signature Owen’s Chardonnay 2021 (Class 12)
- Shottesbrooke Singe Vineyard Series Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2020 (Class 13)
- Howard Vineyard Shiraz 2021 (Class 27)
- Longview Yakka Shiraz 2020 (Class 28)
- Longview Vista Barbera 2021 (Class 32)
