When it comes to choosing accommodation, or restaurants for that matter, websites like trivago and trip advisor are always a great go-to destination, to find out what other people thought of the experience.
So when trivago holds their annual awards for best hotels across the world, it’s one to pay attention to.
For the categories of 3-Star Hotel, 4-Star Hotel, 5-Star Hotel, and Alternative Accommodation, trivago recognize the top 10 hotels per country with the highest consistent trivago Rating Index scores for the year.
The hotels with the absolute highest scores are deemed the category winners for their countries.
In Australia, the winner of best 5-Star Hotel was The Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide, South Australia. Its trivago rating of 9.3, which trumped the others, was based on based on 2353 reviews from:
- Expedia (9.5/10)
- Hotels.com (9.6/10)
- other websites (9.1/10)
Overall, the breakdown of The Mayfair’s ratings were as follows:

Trivago said the Mayfair offers style, elegance and a touch of glamour. “Located right in the heart of a vibrant city, the hotel offers premium facilities and showcases the very best of South Australia, including locally made products and furnishings.”
Mayfair Hotel General Manager Martin Radcliffe said the hotel was delighted to be a Trivago awards winner again this year.
“This is wonderful acknowledgment for our hotel, and testament to a dedicated and talented team. A great deal of care and attention goes into the delivery of a guest experience that is of the highest quality, distinctly South Australian, and personalised where possible to ensure a memorable stay. It is recognition like this that lets us know we are on the right track.”
The 3-Star Hotel winner in Australia was Medusa Hotel, the 4-Star Hotel Australia winner was Cavvanbah Beach House and the best Alternative Accommodation was Beachfront Apartments on Trinity Beach. Hyatt Regency Sydney won Outstanding Online Presence for Australia. Parkroyal Melbourne Airport won Best Online Bookings.
