Adelaide International breaks attendance records

The tennis on display was nothing short of world-class, with top players from around the globe battling it out on the court.

The 2024 Adelaide International hit a home run this year, attracting a whopping 51,117 fans to The Drive. This turnout set a new record for the tournament, making it the biggest single-week event crowd since 2020. In the men’s singles, Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic, ranked 23rd in the world, clinched the title. Over in the women’s singles, Jelena Ostapenko snagged her seventh career win, defeating Daria Kasatkina with a solid 6-3, 6-2 in the finals.

Doubles events were just as exciting. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury took home the men’s doubles title after a tough match against Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, winning 7–5, 5–7, [11–9]. The women’s doubles saw Beatriz Haddad Maia and Taylor Townsend triumph over Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, with a score of 7–5, 6–3.

Fans flocked to The Drive over the six days of the tournament which smashed records on and off the court.

The expanded event footprint in Pinky Flat added to the event experience and proved a winner with the fans off court and prompted record day one attendance.

A new feature this year was the Kids Day, aimed at giving families and friends a day filled with fun activities, not just focusing on tennis. This added a family-friendly vibe to the event, making it enjoyable for all ages.

Tournament Director Alicia Molik was delighted with the event’s success, especially the support from fans, players, and their teams.

“The fans have spoken; they love tennis and the experience at The Drive. There is a huge appetite for world class tennis in this state.”

Minster for Tourism Zoe Bettison says that the Adelaide International leads the way of what is expected to be a very busy year for the tourism and hospitality industry.
