If you’re on the fence about what to do this Easter long weekend, let the Adelaide International Kite Festival carry you away with a sky full of kites and a wave of nostalgia. Who doesn’t love kites? Taking you all the way back to yesteryear and igniting the childlike playfulness that rumbles inside us all, this festival offers three days of fun and fanfare, complete with visits from the Easter Bunny on Sunday and Monday!
Festival event manager, Kristen Newlyn, says this year is shaping up to be the biggest yet with the highest predicted attendee turnover, complete with a brand-new market scheduled to open the Easter long weekend with a bang, on Friday 3 April.
“This year, we’re excited to launch our twilight market for the first time, so we’ll kick off the marketplace on Friday evening with our amusements on site, as sort of a precursor to the big show happening from Saturday,” says Kristen.
Bring your own or purchase a kite onsite, and join thousands of other kite-flyers – including some international guests – in a lively and energetic atmosphere, where grand displays of colour and form dominate the skies.

“The festival itself kicks off on Saturday, so it’s from April 4 to 6 that we fly,” Kristen explains. “We run the event from 11am till 5pm each of those days, and we have kites up throughout that period of time, all shapes and sizes, and our biggest is a 30-metre-long blue whale. We’ve got small, beautiful, delicate handheld kites, and everything in between. It can be a couple of hundred kites in the sky at one time as long as the weather is behaving.”
While the 2025 Festival saw an average of ten-thousand attendees at the event each day, the event was marred with terrible weather, and was deemed less successful as a result. Organisers are hopeful that this year will be blue skies and sun-drenched sand, with Semaphore beach and foreshore a hive of activity and entertainment for the festival’s entirety.
An exciting event for the young and the young-at-heart, this unmissable event is one you’ll want to mark on your calendars.
