Adelaide Italian Festival reveals program highlights, with business participant registrations now open

Organisers are calling on Italian community organisations, clubs, associations, and businesses to register and participate in this exciting ten-day festival.

The Adelaide Italian Festival, a magnificent celebration of Italian culture and heritage, is set to return for its fourth year from 10-19 November. Organisers are calling on Italian community organisations, clubs, associations, and businesses to register and participate in this exciting ten-day festival.

With 55 events hosted last year, the festival continues to grow in popularity, and the community is encouraged to register their events to be part of the festivities.

Tania Milohis, the newly appointed Chair of the Adelaide Italian Festival, expressed the festival’s vision, saying, “South Australia is home to a vibrant community of citizens with Italian heritage, and we are looking fr events that can showcase both tradition and modern culture in categories like food and wine, arts and culture, fashion, cars, and technology.”

The festival has announced the return of some popular signature events for 2023. The festivities kick off with La Grande Gita, a scenic bike ride through the picturesque Barossa on Sunday 5 November. Participants can enjoy a family-friendly day of vintage bikes, local produce, and wines from surrounding wineries.

The highly anticipated Opening Night Street Party will transform Adelaide’s East End into the vibrant laneways of Rome on Friday 10 November. Attendees will indulge in delicious Italian food, wines, and apéritifs, along with community food stalls and lively music that blends modern and traditional tunes.

The festival will also feature the Journey Mass on Saturday 11 November, a celebration of South Australian Italian migrants at St. Francis Xavier’s Cathedral. The Autoclassica car show will make a grand return at an exciting new location on Saturday 12 November.

The grand finale, the Closing Gala Dinner on Saturday 18 November, will be a feast of Italian cuisine and entertainment at the South Australia Italian Association. The entire community is encouraged to attend, alongside special VIP guests.

Tania Milohis unveiled the festival’s 2023 poster, reflecting Italy’s historical elements with a modern and vibrant touch. She expressed her pride in watching the festival expand while remaining committed to sharing the best of Italian culture with the wider community.

The Adelaide Italian Festival showcases the diverse highlights of Italian heritage, such as a journey through Sir Hans Heysen’s home and studio in Hahndorf, exploring the European works that inspired this celebrated South Australian artist.

The festival also recognizes the contributions of Italian descent scientists, entrepreneurs, and researchers in the growing Australian space industry through the Italian Space Forum event. Additionally, generational cooking demonstrations at Italian Clubs and Associations across Adelaide provide a glimpse into the culinary traditions of Italy.

Tania Milohis concluded by saying, “South Australians love attending Italian celebrations, and we look forward to once again sharing our Italian heritage and traditions with the wider community. This year’s festival promises to be even bigger and better!”
