Adelaide local wins big at elite Australian & NZ Modern Barber Awards

Henley Beach local has been named Best ANZ Business/Director of the Year at awards held on May 5 in Surfers Paradise.

Henley Beach local and founder of ATTABOY, Robby Lippet, has been named Best ANZ Business/Director of the Year at the prestigious 2025 ANZ Modern Barber Awards (AMBA) held on Monday May 5 at The Island, Surfers Paradise.

Robby, who opened his first ATTABOY salon in 2019 on Adelaide’s west side, has since grown the brand into a thriving four-location operation across SA, with salons in Hilton, Prospect, Kent Town, and Henley Beach, plus a sister barbershop brand, Boy Oh Boy, in Perth.

Offering a curated experience of clean cuts and great coffee, ATTABOY stands out for its appointment-only model, blending quality grooming with a relaxed, stylish setting.

Suprisingly, it wasn’t until the age of 28 that Robby Lippett first picked up a pair of clippers, but – despite the late start – the world of hair was never far away. His stepmother co-founded Cemons Hair & Beauty and its training college, providing early exposure to the industry’s culture and craft.

Before barbering, he carved out careers in hospitality and semi-professional soccer, until a single information night set him on a new path, one that quickly became a vocation.

This year’s AMBA gala marked the fourth edition of the annual awards, and for the first time, welcomed talent from across the Tasman with New Zealand entries in the mix.

Held at The Island in Surfers Paradise, the night unfolded with beatboxing, live music and interactive street art performances – an energetic nod to the barbering industry’s evolving identity.

Linda Woodhead, founder of the Mocha Group and creator of the AMBAs, described Bobby as a leader who embodies the essence of modern barbering.

“The barbering industry is a community built on tradition, skill, and a commitment to creativity that sets it apart. Robby is now testament to this,” she said.

“I’m proud to see how he leads with passion and innovation to meet the needs of his clients and am excited to have him on board as an ambassador for the AMBAs.”

Since launching in 2021, the AMBAs have become a key benchmark for excellence in the hairdressing world. Bobby’s win as Best ANZ Business/Director of the Year cements his place as one of the country’s most forward-thinking barbers and entrepreneurs – proof that it’s never too late to find your footing and build something that resonates.
