If you thought Mad March couldn’t get any busier, think again because a new event has been pencilled in and it’s a good one. The highly popular Adelaide Motorsport Festival is making its return joining the already incredible series of events that make Mad March our favourite time of year.
The Adelaide Motorsport Festival will be held between 24 – 26 March 2023, the week after the Adelaide Fringe festival concludes but a week prior to the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
The move of the event to late March was a strategic one by the State Government in an attempt to rally motorsport fans as they flock to Australia for the Grand Prix.
“Moving the event to late March means we can target Formula One fans to visit Adelaide ahead of the Australian Grand Prix which will be held on the following weekend.,” says South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas.
For the first time since 2019, the festival will take place in and around the streets of Adelaide, including parts of the original track where the Australian Grand Prix ran between 1985-1995.
“South Australia has a long motorsport history and the return of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival is fantastic news,” says Mr Malinauskas.
“The Malinauskas Labor Government has allocated $1.4 million per year to ensure the event can expand and attract even more international and interstate visitors.
“We want the Adelaide Motorsport Festival to rival the UK’s world-renowned motorsport festival the Goodwood.”
The Adelaide Motorsport Festival grew from humble beginnings. In 2014 about 1,800 people attended the event and by its last year in 2019, 50,000 people were engaged in all aspects of the festival.
Prior to the event being cancelled due to funding issues, the Adelaide Motorsport Festival was considered one of Australia’s premier motorsport events and a key contributor to South Australia’s tourism economy, delivering more than $3.5 million in economic benefits to the State.
The Festival is a welcome addition to Adelaide’s calendar and will be the perfect way to wrap up what is shaping up to be another buzzing Mad March season.
The Adelaide Motorsport Festival will take place between 24 – 26 March 2023.
