Adelaide has soared up the ranks in The Economist’s Global Liveability Index, named one of the most liveable cities on Earth.
In the latest 2024 edition of the index, Adelaide has secured its place as the 11th best place to live in the world out of 173 cities globally, ahead of other Aussie cities like Perth (15th) and Brisbane (16th).
This marks the second year in a row that Adelaide has moved up the ranks, climbing from 12th place in 2023 and making a massive leap from 30th just two years ago.
Looking at the top ten positions of the index, Austria’s Vienna took it out as the number one most liveable city in the world, Melbourne as 4th and Sydney ranked equal 7th with Vancouver in Canada.
The index rates cities based on five key factors: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Beyond Adelaide’s liveability, South Australia’s economy is also making headlines. Recent reports from CommSec and ANZ have crowned SA as the nation’s top economic performer.
“This reinforces what most of us already know – that Adelaide enjoys a lifestyle that is the envy of the world,” Premier Peter Malinauskas said.
“While we are facing challenges in areas such as cost of living, health and housing, I think we can all agree we are fortunate to live in one of the most liveable cities in the world, with plenty of opportunity ahead for the next generation.
“This is something we cannot afford to take for granted, and the government is committed to doing everything it can to maintain and enhance the enviable lifestyle we enjoy as South Australians.”
