International design magazine Architectural Digest has named Adelaide at the top of their list of The 20 Most Beautiful Cities in the World through consideration of architecture, cultural treasures, historical relevance, and natural appeal.
Adelaide is the only Australian city to make the list, with the publication citing that you can experience “surf, sand dunes, and Art Deco architecture” all within a short distance of South Australia’s capital.
Adelaide’s natural connection between historic architecture and stunning natural beauty is what makes it a standout destination for AD.
“Beyond the beach, Adelaide has rolling hills lush with high-quality grapes, making it the country’s wine capital. When not sipping an Australian cab, nature lovers can spot koalas and kangaroos on a hike in the Adelaide Hills.”
Alongside Adelaide, AD highlighted cities from all corners of the globe, like the Caribbean island city, of Portsmouth in Dominica, the modern architectural haven, of Singapore, and Japan’s culturally rich, Kyoto.
Although stating that “twenty cities is far too few to sum up all the world’s beauty,” others on the list include: Tallinn, Estonia, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Antigua, Guatemala, Paris, France, Chefchaouen, Morocco, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Luxor, Egypt, Istanbul, Turkey, Barcelona, Spain, Cape Town, South Africa, Rio Di Janeiro, Brazil, Florance, Italy, Djenné, Mali, New York City, US, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Jaipur, India.
These spectacular places, each have an array of beauty and their own unique qualities. From the ever-bustling, densely populated New York City, to the site of ancient Thebes, the pharaohs’, in Luxor, each city on the list has something you can’t find elsewhere.
Adelaide has consistently been on the list of the world’s most livable cities, and the exceptional food, wine, events, art, attractions, shopping and wildlife, sure do make it an appealing place to live.
With world-class events like Gather Round, LIV Golf and the Adelaide Fringe, entertainment is in abundance. And, the stunning scenery makes Adelaide, and the rest of South Australia, the perfect place to spend time exploring.
