Adelaide nominated for Best Global Music City

Adelaide has been nominated for Best Global Music City and Best Late-Night Economy Initiative at the 11th Music Cities Convention, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

Adelaide has been nominated for Best Global Music City at the 11th Music Cities Convention, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

The Music Cities Awards is a global competition designed to acknowledge and reward the most outstanding applications of music for economic, social, environmental and cultural development in cities and places all around the world.

“Adelaide has endured the devastating effects of Covid and is rebuilding due to the creativity and resilience of the its artists and music industry and through a diverse support infrastructure built over the past ten years,” says UNESCO Adelaide City of Music General Manager, Joe Hay.

“This nomination recognises the hard work and diversity of Adelaide’s music ecology and everyone who supports and enjoy music, whatever, and wherever it is found in our state, our bands, symphony’s, pubs, theatres and festivals.”

Initiated by global music city consultancy, Sound Diplomacy, the Music Cities Convention series brings together artists and governments from around the world committed to supporting vibrant music ecologies, cities and cultures, and to share and learn for each other.

The awards will be presented at the 11th Music Cities Convention being held in November 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA.

Adelaide has been nominated for Best Global Music City and Best Late-Night Economy Initiative, Friday Night Live.

“Music plays an important role in bringing our city to life and our Friday Night Live initiative provided a platform to support artists and encourage people back to the city,” says City of Adelaide CEO, Clare Mockler.

“Adelaide has an incredible musical history, with many artists having close connections to this city, its live music venues and wonderful festivals.”

Joe Hay has been invited to speak at the convention and share with the world the story of Adelaide’s late night and music industry transformation.

“We are so excited and honoured that our wonderful Adelaide has been nominated for Best Global Music City. We will continue to do everything we can to support our State and our city’s recovery as we emerge from the pandemic ensuring that Adelaide will have a thriving 2022 – 2023 and beyond events calendar,” says Minister for Tourism, Zoe Bettison.

“We are also keen to send a clear message to major event organisers from around the world that as a government we are still Australia’s festival state and we will do everything possible to support and promote music activities here in SA.”
