Ever wondered what amounts of intense training it takes to run a marathon?

An Adelaide produced documentary I’m Not a Runner shows you. The new documentary exposes the strict mindset and strength behind running a marathon.

The film follows a group of five ‘ordinary’ women aged 35-73 from Adelaide over a period of 15 months as they prepare to run a marathon for the very first time In New York City.

I’m Not a Runner had its World Premiere screening in Adelaide on Sunday September 19, ahead of its release at the world’s biggest showcase of new film and television content MIPCOM. The MIPCOM film festival will take place from October 11 to 14 in Cannes France.

The 52-minute documentary is filmed on location in Adelaide and New York City. It is produced by Adventure Time Films who are a group of three people with little to no experience in the film industry.

In the four years since production began, the trio have largely self-funded the documentary and poured thousands of unpaid hours into bringing the film to life.

“Instead of giving up we just kept going and now it looks like we might have made something kind of special.”

I’m Not a Runner has now been picked up by an international distributor and will take its place alongside many of the biggest budget films and documentaries from around the world at the MIPCOM conference.

“A marathon lifts you out of yourself, and that certainly what happened to us in the making of this film”

I’m Not a RunnerExecutive Producer Anna Liptak agrees.

“For years I’ve witnessed what happens when people work hard to attempt things they don’t believe they can do,” she says.

“I hope these women are proof that ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things.”
