The 2024 Australian Sailing Awards kicked off with a host of usual faces in the sailing community. This year’s prestigious Club of the Year Award (Category A) went to the Adelaide Sailing Club.

They saw a win for the Volunteer of the Year and Sports Promotion Awards on top of this. These were celebrations of Peter Royle & Malcolm Hughes as volunteers and the club’s 2024 ILCA World Championship Regatta.

“Adelaide Sailing Club over the last six years, have won four state awards, and this fourth time we managed to get nominated for the national award, which we’ve won,” Retiring Commodore Peter Royle said.

“We’re extremely pleased and humbled that amongst all the great sailing clubs, large and small across Australia, our sailing club was judged to be the Club of the Year.”

The event was held Dockside at Cockle Bay Wharf in Darling Harbour last Friday. It looked to highlight the achievements and contributions of the ever-expanding sailing community.

Members were nominated in a range of categories, including individual, club-wide or sports related awards.

Highlighting small sailing communities, the Club of the Year Award has been split into A and B categories since 2023. The winner of the Club of the Year Award (category B) was the Toronto Ameteur Sailing Club in NSW.

ASC has established a long-standing relationship with their locals. The West Beach based sailing club has become an iconic spot along the waterfront for people with an interest in hitting the high seas.

ASC was established from the merging of two popular communities: the Glenelg Sailing and Holdfast Bay Yacht Clubs. This change occurred in 1998, with the formation of a blended boating venue at the end of Barcoo Road.

A sailing school operated by the club is available for anyone looking to get involved, offering classes with professional instructors. The training is conducted in their Accredited Yachting Australia Training Centre. There are a range of courses available for booking on their website.

The ASC is a large contributor to the sporting community as it hosts many unique programs and competitions. Every year, the club has Regattas that consist of boating and yachting-related competitions.

The club also has a Junior and Youth Training Program for people wanting to get their children started young.

Fuego by the Sea is a restaurant located inside the Adelaide Sailing Club. With charcoal-grilled dishes along the beachfront, you can indulge in a mix of Mediterranean and South American food.

This venue is great for families, with a versatile menu and a luxury seafood platter. Fuego offers a stunning breakfast menu of burgers, bennys and big brekkies to start the day.

The restaurant hosts functions and events with the perfect place for scenic views and quality dishes. You can sit overlooking West Beach in all its glory.

With a range of activities to choose from, Adelaide Sailing Club is the definitive launching point for your sailing adventures.
