South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, along with LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil and Australian golf icon Greg Norman, revealed today that Adelaide will remain the exclusive Australian destination for the LIV Golf tournament until 2031.
The extended agreement is part of a broader plan to further enhance golfing facilities in the region. The SA Government, working jointly with Adelaide City Council, has announced an ambitious redevelopment project for the North Adelaide Golf Course. This major project, slated to be designed by Greg Norman’s firm, aims to convert this already significant venue into one of the leading public golf courses globally.
North Adelaide Golf Course stands out due to its remarkable location within the Adelaide Park Lands and its scenic views of the Adelaide CBD. The proposed upgrades will not only enhance the facilities but are also expected to substantially boost tourism, drawing more visitors both from within Australia and internationally. Along with creating a new 18-hole Championship Course, the plans include the installation of a new driving range and advanced practice facilities, which will accommodate the growing demands of LIV Golf Adelaide.
Premier Malinauskas highlighted the broad-reaching benefits of this initiative. He said “The investments we’re making will deliver a high quality outcome for our Park Lands,
improvements for members of the public who want to play at North Adelaide, and
importantly, provide a new home for the growth of LIV Golf Adelaide.
“Seeing LIV get bigger and better means more people from around Australia and the
world getting the chance to experience the wonders of our state.
“This is about much more than just bringing the world’s best golfers to Adelaide – it’s
about telling the story of South Australia to a global audience, with images of our
State’s magnificent regions beamed into the homes of more than a hundred countries.
“Significantly, it’s also about leveraging LIV as a platform to show that South Australia
is a great place to do business.”
The events have garnered substantial attention, translating to over 79,000 visitor nights and visitors staying an average of nearly four days, with about 40% of attendees coming from outside South Australia.
This series of developments confirms the South Australian Government’s strategic vision to harness top-tier global sporting events like LIV Golf not just for sport but also as major catalysts for tourism, international exposure, and economic activity. As these plans unfold, they hold the promise of redefining golf in the region while showcasing South Australia’s vibrant community and dynamic cityscape to a worldwide audience.
