Adelaide to Get Final Taste of Racing ‘Caviar’ for Late Mail Luncheon

Part owners of superstar sprint queen Black Caviar will jet into Adelaide on Friday 3 May to join David Hayes and a star studded line up of racing’s ‘rock stars’ for the annual racing industry Late Mail Luncheon.

Hosted by legendary race caller Bryan Martin OAM, South Australia’s own Hall of Fame jockey John Letts and SA racing socialite Annie Leo, the lunch will play host to around 300 special guests at the Intercontinental on the eve of the Group 1 SA Derby.

Black Caviar part owners Gary and Kerrin Wilkie along with Colin and Janenne Madden will fly in for the event in a show of black and salmon support for SA racing that they say has treated them and their champion sprinter with unforgettable hospitality.

Special guests on the day include one of South Australia’s most famous racing exports, David Hayes. Hayes joins a star studded panel of trainers including Leon Macdonald, Greg Eurell, Joe Janiak and Blue Diamond winners Daniel Clarken and Lauren Stojakovic.

Australian Racing Board Chief Executive Officer Peter McGauran confirmed as the luncheon Key Note Speaker and given recent announcements by the ARB regarding mandatory penalties for breaches of racing’s rules, his speech is sure to be controversial.

The Late Mail Luncheon has proved a huge success over the past 10 years in Melbourne where it is now regarded as the premier social racing event of the spring. Backed by the SAJC and TRSA, the luncheon has now been confirmed for Adelaide until 2014.

Mark Scaife is the Event Director and is not the V8 Supercar driver but wishes he had a dollar for each time someone mentioned racing. Scaife, a marketing guru, believes Adelaide deserves a high profile racing event that attracts the industry stars.

“The Late Mail Luncheon is really just a simple way to allow our guests to rub shoulders with the stars of the racing industry and by hosting a lunch the day before a classic Group 1 like the SA Derby whilst we try and raise awareness of heart disease in men” said Scaife.

And he should know. Mark suffered a near fatal heart attack 18 months ago at age 43 when 99% of his main artery blocked. Well on the way to recovery, reminding men over age 40 to have their cholesterol checked and to watch out for the signs of heart attack is the key message of the day.

Medallion Homes, Adelaide’s leading home builder and the naming sponsor of the luncheon has added some glamour and excitement to the day by confirming the Official After Party will be held in the Atrium Bar of the Intercontinental.

Organisers have advised that there are just 70 tickets left for sale. Tickets are $214.and can be purchased via the event website at www.latemaillunchadelaide.com, via email at [email protected] or by calling 0409 473 541
